Description:The North Rillito Interceptor (NRI) project is approximately 10 miles long. The NRI is a large diameter pipeline that transports wastewater from the Tucson’s far east side in the Woodland Road and Bear Canyon area, along the north bank of the Tanque Verde Creek and Rillito River, to the Ina Road Wastewater Treatment Facility – which serves a major portion of northern and eastern Tucson. Excavation work and the installation of the Northern Diversion Structure (rated for 10 MGD) was provided to divert flows into the North Relief Sewer due to capacity related issues. During the design phase, B&F sequenced the project into six separate phases to minimize the construction impact on affected residents, businesses, and schools. This approach allows the project team to zone in on certain areas and provide greater attention and focus to the residents.
