2nd and Watkins Emergency Sewer Project

B&F responded to an emergency for the City of Phoenix on the Salt River Outfall Pipeline at Watkins and Central, where a camera and sewer plug were caught on debris under the flow line. We worked with Brown and Caldwell and the City to provide on-the-spot design assistance to quickly get the 72-inch line under a 98 MGD bypass. Due to the magnitude of this project under an emergency circumstance with limited information and plans, we worked as a team to develop solutions to issues as they were identified. B&F quickly mobilized 17 pumps, pipes, pipe plugs, and key industry partners to the project.

B&F was able to work with the design team to utilize a new I-Plus CIPP liner that is thinner and stronger, which allowed this project to be completed with pre wet-out CIPP versus over the hole wet-out procedure. This ultimately saved the City 10 additional days off a +$20,000 day sewer bypass. Our team also installed a temp odor injection station in Tempe due to the amount of H2S by partnering with USP Technologies and the City. The project team injected 2,000 gallons of Ferrous into the system to perform the bypass due to odor.
