The project was one of the larger Job Order Contracts from the City of Tempe. This project required the installation of new foundations, j-boxes, and conduit work at the NW, SW, and SE corners of 48th Street and Broadway and potholing at the NE corner to determine if new foundations were possible. B&F was issued this JOA to complete the rebuild while maintaining the existing intersection. Our team installed pole foundations, conduit, and new traffic signals.
Due to unknown fiber lines, the original design was not able to be used. Therefore, extensive potholing was required to help identify usable locations for new traffic poles. By using increased teamwork and communication with the City of Tempe Traffic Division, field adjustments were made and new locations were identified and utilized. Since this project was located at the boundaries of the City of Tempe, City of Phoenix, and ADOT, it required extensive coordination efforts to minimize traffic impacts.
