B&F provided traffic signal installation, modifications, and upgrade services for the Town of Gilbert’s Traffic Signals JOC. Some of the work included new traffic signals at existing intersections, such as the Gilbert Rd and Vaughn Ave intersection in the Historic Downtown area. The signal was designed within the limited right‐of‐way constraint of this area and had to accommodate high pedestrian activity.
Another traffic signal was designed for Val Vista Dr & Frye Rd, a ‘T’ intersection located less than one mile north of Loop 202. Frye Rd is one of the main entrances into the large Spectrum residential com‐ munity and there is an elementary school located near the intersection. Consequently, there is a high volume of both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The design included improvements to the roadway median and sidewalk ramps, and signal poles were located to avoid conflict with existing overhead 69KV transmission lines.
Other work included improvements for Baseline Rd & Quinn Ave, which is an arterial/collector intersection located on the boundary of Gilbert and Mesa. The signal is owned and maintained by Gilbert, but a portion of the work fell within City of Mesa right‐of‐way, so plans were also submitted to Mesa for permit. The design included improvements to the roadway median and sidewalk ramps, and signal poles were located to avoid conflict with an existing 48″ SRP irrigation pipe.
